A webinar on how and why outsourcing your security to an MSSP can help transforms your organization and create a 24/7 available and alert attack detection and reaction capacity instantly – to help you protect your data and infrastructure even when you’re on holiday.

In case you missed it, let us recap our recent cybersecurity webinar focused on the challenges of enterprise security transformation and the advantages of outsourcing security to a Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP). This webinar shed light on the crucial aspects of building an effective security team, the need for a Security Operations Center (SOC), and the benefits of leveraging an MSSP for enhanced security measures. Let’s dive into the key takeaways from the webinar and explore why outsourcing security could be a game-changer for your organization!

Beginning with highlighting the challenges faced during enterprise security transformation and the capabilities required for effective defense we emphasized the importance of achieving a balance between the highest levels of security and acceptable inconvenience to end-users. With the current cyber threat landscape, it was crucial for organizations to acknowledge that incidents had likely already occurred, and detection, preparation, and reaction were of paramount importance.

Contemplating the must-haves to build robust detection and reaction capabilities, in the webinar we also stressed the need for a well-rounded security team. Such a team should consist of security researchers and experts, separate from system administrators who already have significant responsibilities and often, sadly, conflicting interests. Their tasks would include analyzing alerts, distinguishing false positives from genuine threats, isolating systems to prevent lateral movement, and more.

Continuing by delving into the comparison between building an internal SOC and leveraging an external MSSP we presented different perspectives, highlighting that while an internal SOC may provide a sense of control, it also requires significant effort, costs, and expertise to develop, maintain, and manage. MSSPs, on the other hand, offer specialized skills, round-the-clock coverage, access to wide range technologies, and continuous training to keep up with evolving threats. The additional advantages of outsourcing security to an MSSP include MSSPs being able to address the challenges of managing shifts, ensuring 24/7 coverage, and handling personnel availability during holidays or vacations. They (we) possess a pool of top security experts and offer a wide range of offensive and defensive certifications, making them well-equipped to handle virtually all potential threats.

Microsoft Solution Partners and Microsoft-recommended MSSPs such as White Hat IT Security have extensive knowledge of Microsoft security tools and possess sufficient certifications. They can help organizations with building their own SOC team, act as interim SOCs, provide consultancy, and offer training to internal experts. Additionally, MSSPs enable organizations to publish tenders, specify needs, and choose the right provider that aligns with their needs and requirements.

We also recommended conducting thorough evaluations during the selection process. Organizations should consider factors such as experience, expertise, references, and contractual agreements besides merely the costs. But considering the up-and-coming nature of the MSSP market and predicting an increase in prices and scarcity of resources organizations are encouraged to consider partnering with an MSSP sooner rather than later.

During the webinar, Mihály Szenteszki from Ingram Micro shared insights about the licensing aspect of cloud-based managed security, emphasizing the speed at which licenses can be acquired. Kata Malya from Graphisoft, a satisfied customer, discussed why they chose to outsource their security needs rather than building internal capacity, highlighting the benefits of having external expertise, accessing additional services, and the peace of mind that comes with leaving the security responsibilities to trusted professionals.

We hoped to provide valuable insights into the challenges and importance of enterprise security transformation. We believe that attendees gained a deeper understanding of the capabilities required for effective defense, the process of building a security team, and the considerations when choosing between an internal SOC and an external MSSP.
